Our mission and ministryThe Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "The Church is the people of God because it pleased God to sanctify us, not in isolation but by making us into one people gathered together by the unity of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. It is a mystery since in her visible reality there is present and active a divine spiritual reality which can only be seen by the eyes of faith. The Church constitutes on earth the seed and beginning of the kingdom of God".Under the leadership of our bishop and in union with the Holy See, we attempt to build up that kingdom through Word and Sacrament. Through the merits of Christ our Saviour and with the prayers of Mary the Mother of God and Saint Teresa, our Patron, let us build up the Kingdom of God together! ActivitiesPrincipal Parish Groups are the Parish Pastoral Council; the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults; the St Vincent de Paul Society; the Ladies Guild; the Parish Finance Committee. The inside of the church
Abbey Gardens, Lochduhar Care Home and Dalawoodie Nursing Home are all served from St Teresa’s.
History
Archbishop Gray of St. Andrew’s and Edinburgh with Bishop McGee of Galloway solemnly opened and dedicated the new Church of St. Teresa of Lisieux on October 3rd 1958.
Bishop McGee said at the opening: “It is our hope and prayer that the Church of St Teresa may become the centre of a great Christian family, strong in the faith, united in mutual charity and love of God and that here great things may be accomplished for the glory of God and the sanctification of souls.”
Canon O’Sullivan, the Parish Priest of St. Andrew’s, bought the land in Glasgow Road, but the coming of the Second World War postponed the start of building, it was in the 1950′s that the Diocese was able to proceed. The new Parish was entrusted to Fr Francis Duffy. With the opening of St. Teresa’s Primary School in 1964, the identity of the Parish was complete.
