Our mission

The Salvation Army is a worldwide evangelical Christian Church and human service agency.

Its message is based on the Bible; its motivation is the love of god as revealed in Jesus Christ.

Its mission is to proclaim His gospel, to persuade people of all ages to become His disciples and to engage in a programme of practical concern for the needs of humanity.

The Salvation Army was founded in London in 1865, in Scotland in 1879, and in Dumfries in 1881.

  • WHY CHURCHES TOGETHER?

    • Greater oneness between churches, fellowships and organisations as Jesus prayed, ’that they all may be one’ (John 17.21).

    • A growth of understanding and common life between churches, fellowships and organisations.

    • Unified action in proclaiming and responding to the gospel in the whole of life.
