Our mission and ministry

The River of Life Church is committed to bringing Jesus Christ to the people of Dumfries. We are a contemporary Church, bringing the good news of Jesus’ love, healing and forgiveness in a way that people can understand and interact with. We love to step outside the walls of the Church building to make an impact in a real way to people’s lives. Church should be fun and engaging and we do all we can to make that the case, focusing on life-issues and applying God’s Word to everyday challenges, dilemmas and decisions. The River of Life Church is affiliated to the Evangelical Alliance, and part of the Hillsong Network.

Activities

Sunday Church services form the pillar of our Church activities, but by no means does it stop there! There are loads of things for people to get involved with: Life Groups meet at different locations (usually homes), at different times throughout the week, to cater for a wide variety of needs; Alpha courses run several times a year, as an introduction to the Christian Faith; people can enrol for Hillsong’s Faithworks Extension College, which we run at River of Life, comprising one night a week studying the Bible, with a teacher and notes. A Hillsong diploma is awarded to successful students.

We also run a busy independent Christian School, providing a full education for 4-18 year olds. The local town centre Christian bookshop and coffee shop, Kings, is a ministry of the River of Life Church, providing a place to meet, Christian resources and employment. There’s a Children’s outreach, Kidz Xtreme, which we run in Lincluden Communit Centre every fortnight and vibrant youth event takes place in the River of Life Centre every Thursday night.

History

The River of Life Church began in the Pastor’s home as a small prayer group in 1987, developing into a Church in 1988. We’ve always been keen to be proactive in building people and doing things which reach out to the community. The wide range of Church ministries and activities which have developed are the outworking of that vision.

  • WHY CHURCHES TOGETHER?

    • Greater oneness between churches, fellowships and organisations as Jesus prayed, ’that they all may be one’ (John 17.21).

    • A growth of understanding and common life between churches, fellowships and organisations.

    • Unified action in proclaiming and responding to the gospel in the whole of life.

Daily Prayer

Prayer is a rewarding and life enhancing conversation with God. But at times it can be difficult. You can feel isolated from others, running out of things to say and getting distracted. Jesus encouraged his followers to pray regularly and discipline is needed to accomplish that. Daily prayers help by developing a habit.
